Student Annoucements - For students, by students

How do announcements happen in your school? Are they read over the loud speaker or maybe posted somewhere for classroom teachers to read? At Glen Lake, in the Elementary and High School, the students are producing their own annoucements! In both settings, students read the current school events and happenings in front of a green screen. This allows for the editors to put the announcers in any backdrop they choose! Elementary students use the Green Screen app by Do Ink and edit in iMovie on their iPads and the HS students use specific higher-end broadcasting tools and software by NewTek.

In both cases, the students are in charge. From practice, to filming, editing, and sharing, the students are creating a valuable product for their peers and teachers. Teamwork, cooperation, communication, and diligence are just a few of the skills these students need to pull this off everyday. These students are also under a time crunch and sometimes "the show must go on", even when there are mistakes or the students want to change the final product.

Pic Collage App in 7th Grade Math

Students have been using the PicCollage app on their school iPads in Mrs. Robinson’s middle school math classes. The students are asked to create their own math problem that involves rational numbers (decimals, integers, fractions). After they complete the problem, they are then asked to solve the problem and then share their problem with their classmates. The PicCollage app helps students get in the mindset of writing the problems and not just solving them. The students realize how this relates to real life and how they may use this skill set in the future!

Rockin' Elementary Robotics

This year, Glen Lake Elementary has four amazing robotics teams that have been working their tails off to build, drive and begin to program their VEX IQ robots. The teams are comprised of 3rd and 4th graders with parent volunteer coaches. They practice at least once per week and are learning much more than robotics. Teamwork, compromise, listening, collaboration and good sportsmanship skills are essential for a successful robotics team. This January and February, our 3rd grade teams competed against other local teams in weekly completions through the VEX IQ Challenge. We had 15 third graders compete and they rocked it with one our of Glen Lake teams taking 2nd Place overall! The second round of competition, which will include our 4th graders will be starting next week. Way to go Little Lakers, we are so proud of you! 3rd Grade Robotics

Advanced Chemistry Skills

In our Advanced Chemistry lab, students  were given a bottle of acid with an unknown concentration. The students used their titration skills to neutralize the acid. They titrated to an exact endpoint, using a digital pH meter probe and Sparkvue software on the their school laptops! d
